Comadres Program:
Mother-to-Mother Education and Support; A team of fully trained doulas (birth assistants) provide prenatal and postpartum education and support through home visiting. Home visiting includes for pregnant women includes individual prenatal education, doula birth accompaniment service, lactation support, postpartum care, referrals for clinical prenatal care, and education and distribution of infant/child cr safety seats. The Comadres are also Child Passenger Safety Technicians, and distribute infant/child car seats. They are helping to develop the first bilingual CPS Tech training courses in the Midwest, and are organizing the Midwest’s first “Latino Child Passenger Safety Resource Center.”
The Comadres have served as instructors for the "Comenzando Bien" intermediate-level training course. They are trained in the area of asthma prevention and management, and are also implementing the “Open Airways for Schools Program.  home

Food Pantry:
Our pantry serves over 200 families each month, and has distributes
approximately 75,000 lbs. of food each year.


Colors of the Earth:
“Colores” helps community members to understand the relationship between our environment and health, and provides opportunities for learning about organic gardening, aquaculture, and vermiculture.

Kidcare and CEDA:
Health Promoters are on hand to assist the community with applications for Kidcare and utilities assistance. home

 HIV, AIDS, STDs Prevention Program

Health Promoters touch individuals and families in their homes with AIDS prevention education, with condoms, with ideas for reducing risk, and by giving referrals for service. They also present this important information at community forums, workshops, health fairs, and other events.

Advanced, experienced Health Promoters build community capacity by training new Health Promoters in AIDS prevention, with new groups each year onsite and at other community organizations home


 The Multipliers Program

The Multipliers Program is the basis for all our efforts to train and mobilize Community Health Promoters. The Program oversees all basic, intermediate, and advanced level training. Multipliers includes courses such as our 15-week Basic Health Promoter Training, as well as the following intermediate and advanced courses: Environmental Health, Personal Empowerment and Self-Development, "Your Heart, Your Life," Proyecto Girasol” Course (domestic violence awareness and intervention). These courses are offered at different times during the year on-site, and some are repeated off-site with collaborating institutions. home

Multipliers also oversees smaller projects and health committees:

  • Nuestra Cultura: workshops offered by the Health Promoters health care providers regarding Hispanic health beliefs and practices
  • Dulce Corazon: Cardiovascular health workshops, diabetes prevention and management, “Your Heart, Your Life” Course
  • Proyecto Girasol Domestic Violence Intervention Project
  • School-based committees and training initiatives

The Pastoral Program
The Pastoral Program is made up of various projects and activities; in different ways, each one fits into our overall social change philosophy by fostering systemic change in struggling, urban communities through human development, community building, and solidarity.
Retreats and Cultural celebrations:
